Hydrolysed silk protein has the ability to replenish the hair with cysteine - one of the 4 amino acids needed to produce keratin, reinforcing the strength and structure of weakened hair strands. Due to its low molecular weight, hydrolysed silk protein has an improved ability to penetrate the hair, improving its elasticity against breakage whilst forming a protective barrier that gives shine and protects against moisture loss.
Colour treating and chemically treating hair often causes damage by breaking the hair’s protein bonds but a boost in protein may also be needed for other reasons, including, genetics, hormones and diet.
