How one customer uses Hairfix to ensure every day's a good hair day

We asked Maria Avraam, Hairfix fan and beauty writer, how she integrates Hairfix into her routine to make sure every day is a good hair day.

“We all know our hair is our crowning glory," says Maria. "What we don’t always know is how to get the best out of our hair and avoid the frustration of bad hair days.

"My hair keeps finding new ways to rebel and so I’ve had to learn how to make the most of it, and have overcome its various coups as I hit 40, 50, and 60.

"When I was younger, I hated my hair. It was always unruly, thick, frizzy and unmanageable. I was afraid to let it grow. As I approached 50 I faced a new set of challenges, collectively known as the menopause, b
rought on abruptly in my case due to chemo which took my hair problems to a whole new level."

Has the menopause made any difference to your hair?

"Yes. Like the skin, hair is affected by hormonal changes. It can change your hair’s texture and colour and make it thinner. When my hair grew back after chemo it was finer, drier and greyer and it was still frizzy and unmanageable. I was colouring it regularly at this point," adds Maria.

"Finding the right products to use was overwhelmingly hard. In my later 50s I noticed more hair fall when I washed my hair, so my goal was to find products to help my hair stay healthy for longer. I recently discovered Hairfix and finally I've perfected my routine. I now feel happy and confident with my hair."

What products do you regularly use for shampooing?

"I wash my hair every other day with Hairfix Every Day Shampoo. It is so mild and gentle and can be used daily if you want. It doesn't leave my hair tangled so that helps reduce further hair fall."

"I especially like that it's sulphate-free and therefore kind to coloured, damaged and thinning hair. It's good to know that you can use it straightened hair, too, including Brazilian blow dried hair. Older hair really appreciates the keratin it contains which softens coarse grey hair."

What's your choice of conditioning product?

I love Hairfix's Every Day Conditioner - and it's currently on special offer! It's a spray and can also be used as a leave-in conditioner, too. It targets frizz and split ends and is good for coloured and straightened hair. It's nice and light and doesn't weigh my hair down but makes it feel soft and healthy. Even my hairdresser recently commenting that my hair is in really good condition!"

Tell us about how you style your hair?

"I usually leave my hair to air dry and then style it using my Remington Keratin Radiance Brush. When I want more volume I will use Hairfix Make More Volume Feel Natural Mousse. I then style it while damp using my BaByliss Dual Barrel Big Hair Brush. I sometimes put in velcro rollers too. I would then spritz some Elnett spray if I’m going out.

"I’ve never really been a fan of mousses because mostly they make my hair feel crunchy and look helmet-like. This mousse has converted me. It's so light and my hair feels natural and frizz free. I'm set to stick with my current routine as I'm really happy with the results."

Lastly, do you have any beauty tips you'd like to share with us?

"By the age of thirty you should have a proper skincare routine. If you haven't then it's important to start regularly applying moisturising creams to nourish your skin and reduce the appearance of fine lines, not neglecting to take it down to your neck and décolleté.

"Massaging your creams into your skin twice daily will improve your circulation which improves your skin condition. Adding an oil in winter, before your moisturiser, boosts hydration. Even if your skin seems oily, an oil will rebalance your skin. My favourites are Argan oil or rose hip oil - as long as they are good quality, refined products oils like this will replenish your skin and reduce unwanted marks or blemishes."
